Personal Note |
Grandfather was U. D. T., (Frogman, predecessor of the SEALS) in the Navy during World War 2. Father (Air Force), Uncle (Marine Corps), Step-father (Navy) and my two brothers are currently in the Navy.Joined the Marine Corps Infantry to become a member of Force Reconnaissance. When I passed the indoctrine test for Recon Battalion and interviewed, ex-wife CONVINCED me to not go for it. Worst decision I ever made and TO THIS DAY I regret listening to her...sorry Christy had to add that in there :)During my tour, I spent nearly 3 out of 4 years deployed and/or training. Active in the Kosovo mission, Operation Noble Anvil and worked with the Army Joint Task Force to close the bases in Panama and turn the Canal over to the Panamanian Government in 2000, as well as deploying out to Okinawa and Japan.1st Bn 6th Mar, Bravo Company (Boat Company/Zodiacs), I learned the essential skills needed to become a combat proficient Infantry Marine and also became the Fire Direction Center for the 60mm Mortar Section. During this time of my career, a 30 man group was selected to work closely with the Recon Community. We crossed trained with Force Recon, learning how to apply their techniques in an urban and jungle environment. When we returned from Kosovo, we had all our NCO’s and our section leader(Staff Sergeant) leave the Marine Corps. At this time, as a Lance Corporal(E-3), I was given control of the Mortar Section and performed the job of a Staff Sergeant(E-6) for a successful period of 10 months, to include the Panama mission.1st Bn 6th Mar, Weapons Company, I served alongside the Company Commander and worked as the Assistant Fire Support Control Center, gathering intelligence from the S-2 and coordinating fire support missions utilizing fixed/rotary wing elements, 81mm mortar support, Artillery, Naval Gunfire, Scout Snipers, and the Infantry Platoons. First experience interacting with Colonel's and above on a regular basis.
